The Erection of a Monument

The above is what was approved last April. It is a big monument, signifying the start of a new century of national power. There has been some other activity in town that is remarkable for its energy. And for the jolts and sparks that will not settle into the usual gray legislative cycle of pale paper and faded bold print.

Like, look at what has happened to the old stonework that had become shopworn from the tourist and the years. We asked Chat to drop the Grand Prix race course on the monument upgrades but not to include the WWF arena around the White House or the National County Fair on the Mall. That would be a little garish, you know?

So, with that exact perspective looking due East and with North anchored directly out the big window to the left, we are good to go.

Splash here this morning, tasked with a short announcement for the Daily about monumental erections.

I think- outside internal polling- about the cool graphics that just showed up this morning after Deirdre blew out of here to go over to the organic Butcher here in McClean. Apparently they got a bulk shipment from Waynesboro, out in the Shenandoah and her choice cuts need to be scooped up before the rest of McLean got at them.

Which is why I am seated at the Conference Table with that big graphic you see above. It is a combination I asked the Chat Box program at the end of the table to capture with things happening around us. I can’t keep track without it., The Box cooperated by producing a bit of satellite imagery looking from our tower over to the Potomac, with notations for what is being transformed in the second Trump Administration.

That is why Miles left me with the Monument erection thing. We took a poll here at Socotra House about whether we like the biggest of the deals on the chart, which would be the Triumphal Arch, modeled on the one over in Paris.

There are those who like the traffic circle the way it is, just green grass with Arlington House rising in the background. Our Pentagon Vets used to jog by there every day it wasn’t raining or snowing on the banks of the Big River. It was a more bucolic version of the Imperial Age in which they worked.

That initial discussion was held when the monument was proposed to the Fine Arts Commission last April. We thought of it as a sort of headstone for those of us who will be turned to ash and spend eternity not far from it’s shadow. Here is what they are going to propose today, knocking some of it down a bit to conform with other pre-Trumpian standards established long ago:

The discussion today is about whether or not to start issuing contracts and buying supplies for something intended to last a long time. The Eisenhower Building, and White House screening center also got a green light. The Ballroom footprint is already complete, though currently masquerading as completely visible and secret Presidential Command Bunker.

Our Boomers passed through both the ones getting fixed in their times over there and appreciate the touch-ups!

Speaking from the conference room, I won’t be here to see it, of course. But I will get back to you for any developments today on whether- or when- the bulldozers show up due east of the Socotra House HQ! This has been a heck of a preservation summer in Your Nation’s Capital!
