An Electric Summer Start

05 June 2025

It was a bight and light morning when I was able to extricate myself from the bed, insert myself into the wheeled chair and roll into the restroom for the vain attempt to look normal. It went pretty well, and I will not trouble you with the details. But with teeth clean, freshly-washed hair brushed into submission and the beginning of a smile, I was prepared to greet the day.

Upon arrival in the living room, I was startled to discover the entire end of the living room is now occupied by three devices. The latest arrived yesterday from Amazon. It is a “Drive” product designed to fool me into thinking I can walk again. I am willing to play along, but surrendering floor space to the devices is disconcerting. All are necessary and incremental in purpose. The wheelchair is an absolute necessity at present, and the only way to get around. The new device is an imposing device intended to enable upright posture with good support and wheels under the hand guards to enable tentative motion.

Lurking behind that is a walker I used after completing recovery the last time but finding a rolling contraption with wheeels and a seat to be a useful aid to enable a rest while waiting to see someone.

Arriva; in the living room enabled the dismount rolling chair to the recliner and immersion in the world bursting with summer and proliferating with electric things. Building power was up and running and the recliner worked, a gratifying story to what is undeniably a summer day. They claim we will hit ear ninety today, and by any estimation that would put us in summer.

The Very Small Group (VSG) starts the day with a simple observation of weather.in the state in which fate has cast them. The observations are tinged with Tidewater and High Plains and Urban settings. This morning caught me in transition from bright sunshine to lower dimmer light that could bring T-storms later. Then came the cascade of chaos in the news. There was an electric theme to it, undeniable and international down to the living room.

In the World Ocean a ship is a dire. 22 crewmen have been rescued, thank goodness, but the 3,000 Chinese electric vehicles roaring in flames on a still floating ship are pouring industrial debris and chemicals into the air. Our small panel is of the opinion that something ought be done before the ship sinks but the resolution is uncertain. Which led immediately to the discussion of the Sunnnova electric power company failure.

There is no time to address the specifics, but nearly a half million customers installed rooftop solar guaranteed to last a quarter century and they are now failing at less than ten with significant roof damage and lack of power.

There was billions spent to convince us solar was the answer and to a degree we accepted it. Unfortunately, the sun;s power, though vast, is intermittent and can take a dozen human lifespans to be noticed. So, with ships blazing and the climate future undetermined, I turned to my next project, which is either walling or traveling with an electric-powered wheelchair. Sobering by the reports of electric vehicles on fire, it is a cautionary tale.

The hand propelled chair I purchased is a lively project and works well on smooth hard surfaces. On upholstered surfaces at the Trillium, progress is laborious, like trying to propel the wheels across a layer of sand. There are other factors that make learning to walk seem pretty attractive. t least I did not invest in a solar roof down at the Fsarm. Now, the only choices required are about where to park and charge an electric chair, and where to go once freedom is in back on the agenda.

It looks like a choice between electric and hard labor to walk again. Or a blend. But ai wish the electric things didn’t require electricity, you know? Please excuse me. I have to go function in the electric world. They are telling us there is nothing to worry about, so I am committed to a course of action that does not include the battery problems of spontaneous combustion of the roof or during ocean transit. I am committed to safety, I think/ I will let you know if I figure it out.!

Happy summer!
