Advent at Socotra House

It is a pretty big Sunday at Socotra House, and you can understand why if you follow one of the most Christian traditions, We are proud to share some of the Abrahametic traditions across three major faiths, of course. But we have a few of the other, older traditions involving eternal flames and other means to understand the mystery and certainty of eternity.

The Chairman is busy with Cyber Monday preparations to offer short hop rides in Hellcat to raise loose cash for the holiday, We have reserved the Trillium back patio to display the cars and aeronautical machines under the grey chill skies around the scrap wood burning in the oil drum out on the edge of the flat space. Management at our building was baffled when the F6F Hellcat was rolled out from the garage P-2 level. The folding wings are a real asset, since the aircraft, depicted by Vic’s Dad can slide direct into two lengthwise parking slots. The narrow profile on the husky aircraft leaves enough space for routine maintenance, and a quick take off is possible on International Drive if paying rides or local sir support is required.

We think the aircraft are a good value now that fuel prices are coming down and we can land over at Dulles if required. The Commercial Airlines have become accustomed to our comings and goings since we only require a little less than an eighth of the regular runways. And the long term parking lot to the west of the terminal is usually empty enough for independent aerial operations.

We think that the four weeks of the Advent observation prior to Christmas is one to focus our thoughts in the holiday month that starts today. We have shipmates from Out West and back in the Rust Belt who claim there is white stuff on the ground. Our experts claim that means it is actually winter. In order to avoid dwelling on that, we turn our thoughts to the themes of each week as we move toward the 25th of December.

Each week we focus on a particular theological theme. Although the selection and arrangement of them can vary, these are some themes commonly explored during Advent:

Week 1: Hope

Week 2: Peace

Week 3: Joy

Week 4: Love

So we are going with Hope that there will be Peace by next Sunday. If it does, we will be filled with Joy followed by an outburst of Love!
