A Close Shave
This was, at one point, an official US Navy picture of one-time grooming standards in the the Sea of Japan. The thought had been, as best we can reconstruct the reasoning, that after the loss of the Vietnam conflict, recognition should be made to the changed social standards back home. And make shipboard life a little more hip, you know?
They just tried that in a previous administration. Apparently that was no successful enough and the blade is out again for facial hair. The theory is that is will make things a little more warlike, but we will let you try to imagine anything more warlike than that shot of Vic in 1978, conducting routine carrier operations east of Korea and south of Vladivostok 47 years ago.
