There are heroes among us, and they have been revealed in the heavens above in this astonishing series of Big Weeks! As we enter Autumn’s winds of change, we can look back on hundreds of years of accomplishments, advances and the sense wonder at the arrival of a leap into a future that is partly human and partly something completely new in the history of our species.

It apparently also comes complete with metaphors. Within the few years since 1903, humankind has gone from a powe1red flight of a few seconds and a few dozen feet in distance to dreaming of colonizing Luna and starting up shop on Mars!

This year, we have dispatched astronauts to circle the Moon and examine some of the options for constructing a an operational base from which they can observe our home planet and begin the challenge of conquering them immensity of the sky..

Andthink about ordinary heroes, like the Captain of a Boeing jet, who in one brief moment went from calm workmanship aviating to fighting for his life- and the lives of 170 passengers in a desperate struggle to open the cockpit door dripping in blood.

For all those who answer the unexpected call- and may we echo their sacrifice if called upon in the days to come! For ordinary people who become extraordinary heroes- we salute you!
