Arrias: Shades of Green
“I was driving back from Dam Neck—took the back road—and passed field after field of corn and bean and alfalfa, a few small patches of cotton and at least one of peanuts—so lush and green… amazing… and still inside Virginia Beach and Chesapeake—the two most populous cities in Virginia…”
Shades of Green
I am indeed a wealthy man,
I’m surrounded by a sea of green.
If there is wealth in beauty,
I’m the richest man you’ve ever seen.
Hundreds of acres of thriving corn,
Hundreds more of lush soybean,
Beauty in the farmers’ labors,
All waiting for the harvesting machine.
A field of peanuts, another of cotton,
Here’s a farmer baling hay.
Nothing like the smell of fresh-cut alfalfa
To sweeten a warm August day.
These few fields lie fallow,
Weeds and grass await the tilling machine.
Every day I pass by in awe,
Surrounded by fields of green.
Each field a product of labors of love,
And a blessing from a God unseen.
Fields blessed beyond understanding,
Each a gorgeous shade of green.
