Spring Chores

042015-1

I am sure it is the anniversary of something this morning, since I have been spewing accounts of momentous days in Virginia, Massachusetts and Oklahoma City lately. It has been fun, but as my eyes blinked open in the country pre-dawn this morning, I realized I have a busy time coming up, and the time to get things done is exactly today.

I celebrated the anniversary of the last time I stripped the beds and washed the sheets and pillowcases. Which would be a long time ago. If I am going to have people visit the farm, I need to have fresh linen on the racks and clean towels out. It is only hospitable.

So, I collected the bedding and snapped a few shots of the pastel colors on the foliage off the deck, and there was that, and a mysterious prompt from the computer after I set the washing machine in motion indicating there were 23,000 files in the iPhoto trash folder, which I astutely discerned might be the cause of the halting motion of the trusty MacBook.

I mashed the “empty trash” button and then watched the machine slow and produce the little spinning Technicolor icon that means “don’t bother me, I am working.”

That ended around noon, when the machine locked up completely and I had to do a hard boot.

Seems to have worked, which is good, but I also discovered the magnitude of the things that need to get done, and I actually started on some. Sand ship’s bell; repaint in gold. Find a really long jumper cable to start the truck and my son’s Ford. Both dead as doornails. Bring some of the better antiques up from the garage once I can get the beasts out of the spaces blocking access to the furniture.

But above all, with rain coming in, start the tractor and get the first cut of the yard and pastures done now that things have dried out from the rain last night.

No Willow tonight. I am going to actually get some stuff done at the farm. And drink there, once the tractor is put back to bed in the barn.

Spring. I love it!
