Morning Has Broken

(Julie demonstrates an eventual Sound of Music in the Alps once the remotes were sorted out!)

The morning actually got unbroke, which was a relief. That is not to disparage the fine installation work conducted by FIOS installation technician Antoinne last Thursday. The thin white cable required for fiberoptic connectivity appeared to be routed correctly, which had necessitated a call for reinforcement by the Large Building Response Team. After a successful trial run and technician departure, the system went dead.

Which is how it stayed through a mildly pensive rainy day. No tech support available for 24 hours. Saturday at 0800 was bright with a chill breeze and a boffo technician named William who maintained a consistent self-dialogue about which box and to which network he was speaking. The actual problem? Some switch at the company had been activated and the digital stream reenergized. It was a two-part solution, though, only one of them internal to Verizon. The other was the mass of systems requiring integration.

Or old people. In short, the new condo had been extensively remodeled to something new a decade ago, each change reflected in the technology of the early new Millenium. The television is supposed to be 90-inches, and comes attached to at least three major connections into the digital world provided by high-bandwidth fiber.

After carefully sorting the five remote controls, by length, not frequency, order was restored. The layers of technology are still to be plumbed but many things are plugged in. The selection for “first film” on the agenda is Sound of Music. As far as the tech gap goes in building relocation and integration it is wonderful. The characters are almost life-sized.
