There are plenty of things across the waves to discuss, but there are no tides to speak of here a few miles from the Big Water.<\/p>\n
But coastal Florida is awash in King Tides. Tomorrow are going to be the biggest of this short cycle, but the experts on the flat screen on the south end of the Conference Room say there are going to be wet sneakers until 2027.<\/p>\n
These things occur a few times a year with the elliptical lunar orbit brings it closest to Earth. Don\u2019t worry about it- it has been doing the dance each season for millions of years.<\/p>\n
But there are some unique observable events when the perogy- the closer opposite of the apogee- has our massive lunar companion right up close, drawing the blue water of our vast ocean up over the bright sand beaches and man-made concrete. And Living Rooms.<\/p>\n
The non-scientific term people often use to describe the current lunar orb\u2019s passing can be either the indigenous people\u2019s ‘Hunter’s Moon’ or the more recent Farmer\u2019s “Harvest Moon.” The actual effect down here is dramatic, and culminates Happy Hour today as it rises brilliant- and huge- with the day’s light fading and the rich night gathering in the East.<\/p>\n
The Tides are drawn to the moon in long-period waves that roll around the planet as the ocean is “pulled” back and forth by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun as these bodies interact with the Earth in their monthly and yearly orbits. Higher than normal tides typically occur during a new or full Moon. And here we are, comfortable inland with a dozen or two feet of elevation and wishing our cousins down south stay dry.<\/p>\n
To prepare, Rocket says a beef tenderloin roast is the special-occasion food that meets special occasion orbital mechanics. Finance agrees, though its enthusiasm has more to do with the invoice than the tenderness.<\/p>\n
A word about the King Tides…<\/p>\n
Two tenderloins come in his bulk order from Wyoming Pure, so Rocket likes to have an occasion assigned to each one. He can obtain reinforcements from the Organic Butcher of McLean up the road, of course, but those supplementary grocery runs tend to attract attention from the money people who we try to keep in cookies and the occasional mini-bottle.<\/p>\n
Which brings us to Trader Joe\u2019s, located about ten minutes down Leesburg Pike. Rocket says the renovation planned for that fairly anonymous strip-mall storefront is intended to enlarge the store and make it more inviting for necessary exotics.<\/p>\n
There is a story to it which we will attempt to incorporate into our growing certification business, intended to market as a skilled trade in international relations, domestic policy, and legislative affairs with food management skills.<\/p>\n
Rocket will handle the beef. Deirdre will handle the sides. Finance will want to know whether Halloween really required both tenderloins.<\/p>\n
We think it did.<\/p>\n
