""

Miles had a quick session with Deirdre and Holly this morning about Rocket and the freezer stocks and the October re-stocking purchases. There were some things that need to be cleaned out to make room for the holiday supplies that will be arriving shortly.

Thanksgiving is coming, Christmas is not far behind, and there is only so much room in the freezer for the future.

That led naturally to the Tater Tot storage issue. And from there, somehow, to Elon Musk, SpaceX, the grandchildren, and the emerging digital future of the human race.

""

It is that kind of morning.

Holly had been examining the possibilities for a substantial Tater Tot Casserole, accompanied by sunny-side-up eggs, sizzling breakfast sausages and enough coffee to keep the Watch Section alert through lunch.

It was a perfectly sensible use of freezer inventory, but things took a more ambitious turn when somebody brought up yesterday’s announcement from Mr. Musk.

He had promised to give one share of SpaceX stock to every child in America next year.

That is quite a proposition. There are something like 73 million American children, and with SpaceX shares recently trading around $146 apiece, the commitment could amount to more than ten billion dollars.

We have four confirmed grandchildren in the Socotra family, with another five or six youngsters distributed around the Creative Section crowd. We are still working on the exact manifest, but the potential beneficiaries are already attracting considerable interest.

The announcement came in the wake of another interesting development in the world of artificial intelligence. Anthropic, the company responsible for the Claude AI system, had announced that it would commit five percent of its shares to a new Public Benefit Fund intended to help distribute some of the benefits of the extraordinary technological changes now unfolding.

Mr. Musk apparently thought the process could be simplified. Why not give shares directly to the public?

And then he announced that he intended to do precisely that, beginning with the children.

There are some details to be worked out, of course. The mechanics of distributing millions of stock certificates, or their digital equivalents, have not been explained. Nor do we know exactly which children qualify or what their parents and grandparents will have to do to claim the shares.

We are also uncertain whether the management of Anthropic has any particular preferences regarding breakfast.

That is where Holly comes in.

She promised to have a recipe card prepared in case Mr. Musk and the Anthropic executives decide to stop by The Trillium to discuss the matter over something substantial.

The proposition is straightforward. Elon brings the paperwork, Anthropic brings its vision of a hybrid digital-human future, Holly produces a magnificent breakfast, Deirdre handles the coffee, and the grandchildren acquire a small financial interest in the future of spaceflight.

It sounds considerably more pleasant than the usual negotiations involving billions of dollars.

The featured dish is a classic Tater Tot Casserole, with browned ground beef, onions, garlic, mixed vegetables, cream of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, cheddar cheese and a generous golden crust of crispy tots.

The Galley version can be accompanied by fried eggs and grilled breakfast sausages for those arriving early enough to call it breakfast. Those who prefer a vegetarian approach can have a separate pan prepared without the beef, substituting mushrooms and additional vegetables.

We have not yet received Anthropic’s dietary requirements. but are accustomed to a wide variety of preferances by tradition, taste and region.

The beauty of the casserole is its versatility. It can be assembled ahead of time, adjusted to accommodate almost any preference, and produced in sufficient quantity to feed the Watch Sections and international management teams. Here it is, and have fun!

""

Meanwhile, the invitation stands!

“Elon, we have at least four grandchildren, a hot skillet, a full pot of coffee, and an ample supply of tater tots. Invite the Anthropic guys and gals! The launch window is open. Bring the shares!”

And if the future of humanity is going to be decided over breakfast, we would appreciate everyone arriving before the eggs get cold.
