Some of them are profound.<\/p>\n<p>Like the story of an Army soldier named Sarah Beckstrom:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34032\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicsocotra.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/082126-heros2-e1787437307766.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"307\" height=\"400\" \/><br \/>\nArmy National Guard Soldier Sarah Beckstrom<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Beckstrom was twenty years old when she and Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe were shot while serving on National Guard duty in Washington, D.C., on November 26, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Beckstrom died from her wounds the following day.<\/p>\n<p>There are new heroes in a changing world. Monica Brown&#8217;s Silver Star reminds us that some of those changes were already underway on a battlefield in Afghanistan nearly twenty years ago.
