What a dynamite Saturday! Skies are brilliant blue and the sun a blazing bright orb that has slowly inched past the lower right corner of the giant plate glass windows of the 4th Floor Conference Room at the Trillium office/residential/retail complex.

We had the company national conference yesterday that started things rolling in directions we had not expected. The favorite was having the Booms and Zooms together to greet a renowned delegate from a great square state west of the Mississippi.

He served with distinction in the same five conflicts that some of us did, and the conversations about them, and the reasons for his family’s relocation from a mostly square jurisdiction to one with four distinct right angles. That in turn brought up a host of issues, like the one about a proper county clerk who attempted to examine the ballots cast in the 2020 national election.

The Clerk thought she smelled something like a rat, and her efforts to detect the origin of the smell got her dragged before a judge, charged on grounds of lying to investigators about what she thought she smelled. If you can imagine, a proper elected official without criminal history was sentenced to nine years in the slammer for a non-violent first offense.

People seem kind of touchy these days, you know?

That was an amazing story that helped everyone at the table to start planning vacations. That accounts for the title graphic this morning, which is an invitation to join out planning group for a bus trip out west to the Central Wyoming Fair and Rodeo over the 4th of July Holiday.

It sounds like fun, and if we stayed the end of the summer in Casper, we could attend the Oil City Obliteration coming up on 04-05 September.

Of course, sources here at The Post claim we are going to have a world’s record fireworks display here in Washington for the 4th this year, and the big windows face east. So maybe we will go South for a break, and do the September jaunt for the Oil City event to start the Fall.

The other thing happened when the discussion moved from the five current Socotra projects. They are, in no order of gravity, Deirdre’s cookbook- she is pissed Miles is not running a recipe this morning- there is the Letters to the World retrospective on the personal start of the current Iran problem 47 years ago. Plus the graphic arts completion of a project Vic’s Dad had commenced while in the Naval Aviation pipeline in WWII.

“Fifteen Minute Counties” is a parallel current events project on the Daily’s extraordinary events, and the Square State has another handful of tough problems they address each morning as part of an intricate and accurate independent production on the meaning of all this.

Which startles us. We have a title graphic about a great event we may not be able to attend due to fireworks. Then we have another graphic about the wonders of a nation shut-off from the excesses of America for sixty years.

We thought of things we always wanted to do but couldn’t due to international tension and danger. But the idea of our trip to Havana was surprising. It had always seemed sort of impossible due to career issues. Or someone would think we harbored good will toward communist oppression. Not true. We would just like to drink where Earnie did, or sit in the hotel lounge where Nat King Coles belted them out.

The bars to which we intend to pay homage include La Bodeguita del Medio, Dos Hermanos and Sloppy Joes, recently reopened after sitting derelict for decades.

We had questions on legality of travel and were startled to discover we could just take an Uber over to Dulles, fly on American Airlines to Havana and take a cab to the Hotel Nacional De Cuba to change into something comfortable and walk over to the Floridita Bar where Hemingway sipped (many) of his daquiries.

That is the plan for the moment. We will keep you posted on planning tips and would like to see it before the money sweeps in and changes everything from past to future.

Want to come? Conceptually, it would be a relaxed motor trip West that winds up on Point Loma in San Diego.

Vic claims he was eight yeqars old the first time he saw Castro on the black and white TV. More as it happens!

Copyright 2026 Vic Socotra
www.vicsocotra.com


Vic Socotra – Purveyor of glib words to the world
jayare303@aol.com
Sat 5/16/2026 11:56 AM
Second day of kick backs from OUTLOOK! 16 May 2026 Morning, Gang!
