The Iranians apparently have now reached the point we mentioned not quite two weeks ago. An Iranian oil guy let slip the fact that they are aware of what is happening to their oil wells and refineries if they are forced to shut them down due to the blockade. And it is happening on this day on the other side of the world.

Which makes us sidetrack to the amusing attempt of two of the Boomers explaining to the Zoomers about a new factor in naval warfare. Two Iranian tankers have tried to run the gauntlet, they said. The one last week had five 5-inch rounds pumped with accuracy into the engine room. Not to sink, but to damage and render inoperable. The one yesterday showed a display of accuracy as the rudder- the part that hangs down astern to guide the ship turned into twisted submerged steel. Without sinking it.

We think that statement of kinetic disapproval may have something to do with the status of negotiation in the Gulf. All the messaging about who is shutting down passage of the waterway is now coming on the rocks of shore. If the Iranians do not act or show something more than zealous anger, the only asset they have starts to go back.

The messaging is that the US has presented a list of points for further negotiations. Sources say a response is expected within 48 hours, which means the oil wells are expected to start incurring long-term damage by this weekend. We will stay alert.
Back here on the Virginia side of the Potomac we are dealing with death and lawfare. We will not attempt to get into the specifics of any of them, but rather simply present a quick survey of the large tectonic issues reflected in the messaging.

There is a big traditional story to which we will devote a special issue. It is the passing of the Mouth of the South, CNN founder Ted Turner. More than any Administration figure of either party, Mr. Turner personally changed our lives. The impact was on those in our crowd who were serving in the Pentagon in 1980. CNN became the first channel to provide 24-hour television news coverage, and was the first all-news television network in the United States. We took that coverage to the SECDEF and Chairman and sometimes to the White House after bouncing the news reporting off the classified sources that had been the heart of what we were reporting to the decision-makers.

He was one of those people who could change a world and did. So, Rocket was assigned to do some digging and see just what sort of legacy can be compiled to show the impact of his life.

Which is a nice way to just wave a trowel of the legal cement across the raw edges of partisan disagreement that will rule this summer. Some of the big guns on that are familiar and local.

Most of the build-up to this has had a little distance, We have become used to hauling Presidents to court as part of a legal campaign so broad that it parallels the establishment of the alternate governance by media and non-governmental organizations. With the mid-terms looming, the news this week helps illuminate what will be happening over the next few months.

We were used to having the GOP hauled in court. Now the alternate faces are facing the legislative carnivores. We have to mention the local stuff first, since our Fairfax District Attorney is in the news again over his relaxed treatment of illegal criminals.

Steve Descano is the individual in question. DOJ announced they would be pouring over his files and who he prosecuted and who he let go. That will be the start of a flurry of legal events in his life, which we of course applaud. But it represents something else. This is not longer about voting the way we Boomers understood the process.

Now, it is about the cash being dumped into the top of the messaging about how this election is going to be determined. Tens or hundreds of millions of dollars are flooding into radical organizations from billionaires both here and abroad, and God knows how much from the Chinese Communist Party. Democrats have been doubling down on their violent rhetoric, even after the latest assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

Expect it to get worse, not better, as we get closer to November.

One cartoon this morning summed it up nicely. Governor Walz of Minnesota has stayed active in his messaging after his failed campaign for Vice President. In the cartoon version, he is dramatically declaring that the riots to come will make us forget about the Fraud thing, whatever that was.

So stand by. We expect other small craft warnings in the waters ahead. The other Virginia note was about our state Senate Majority Leader Louise Lucas. She is a close advisor to our Governor Spanberger who has her own messaging problems. The Lucas story will be played out in high volume across the end of Spring and the race through Summer. Everyone who was in public life in the decades of Epstein’s debauchery knew how things worked in the alternate government, funded out of entitlement fraud. They just did nothing about it.

We can see the coming landscape. There are even some new revelations about that Epstein fellow, who apparently left notes that his maximum security confinement cell was “no fun.”

We will not agree with that any more than the testimony of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who testified in a closed House Oversight Committee meeting that he forgot he had cut relations with Epstein in 2005 but took his family for a visit to the private island seven years later.

See? This is going to be a season where the grinding of enormous forces powered by mountains of cash will veer wildly across all the emotions the Information Warriors can produce to entertain and then rule us.

We’ll be on top of it. Or under it. Keith said there were no squad cars out front this morning when he stopped to drop off the bagels from the place on Main Street in Fairfax City. So, smart money says we have at least until lunch to come up with something reasonable! We think Deirdre may have something special cooking in the 4th Floor galley!

In the meantime, in between time, we are keeping a grip on the lines, the bow pointing into the coursing waves and an eye on the sky!

Copyright 2026 Vic Socotra
www.vicsocotra.com

A Legend Leaves, Descano and Lucas in Litigation If you have a moment, just try to understand some of the chaos being described on all the messaging streams.
