Drove home this morning, crossed the Saluda just west of Colombia - just before it turns and runs right into Columbia\u2026 Early morning, thick mist rising of the river\u2026 really wish I had a camera with me\u2026\u201d\n\n\nJuly 4th, 2025\n\n\nThe muddy river slides quietly along,\n\nA golden light filters through the trees,\n\nA thick mist rises from the dark brown,\n\nThe air is still, not a hint of breeze.\n\n\nDawn comes to the Saluda,\n\nShe turns east and runs out of sight,\n\nIndependence Day in South Carolina,\n\nLit by a cheery light.\n\n\nAnd a cheery light across this amazing land,\n\nAnd to the millions who worked to make her great,\n\nThe millions who loved her more than life itself,\n\nFor a moment stop and celebrate.\n\n\nRaise a toast to them all,\n\nA Cheer For Each, Hurrah!\n\nBut especially for those 56,\n\nOn that day in Philadelphia\u2026\n\n\nThank God I am an American,\n\nThank God the Founders had their sway,\n\nThank God for all who sacrificed,\n\nThank God for Independence Day.<\/code><\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Arrias: \u201cGot home about an hour ago, have now unpacked, and fed the puppy!
