Money for your missiles,<\/p>\n
A billion for another floating beauty,<\/p>\n
Billions for bombers and AI,<\/p>\n
But none for corporals on duty.<\/p>\n
Politicians take their pictures<\/p>\n
With some PFC who lost an arm,<\/p>\n
Spread that picture around,<\/p>\n
The voters for to charm.<\/p>\n
But the PFC still has no arm,<\/p>\n
And his buddies are still in the fight,<\/p>\n
And money gets spent on stupid things,<\/p>\n
On the fighting they shine no light.<\/p>\n
Politicians all have brilliant ideas<\/p>\n
What new wars to wage,<\/p>\n
At all sorts of new injustices<\/p>\n
They can stand up and rage.<\/p>\n
They make sure that some special group<\/p>\n
Gets special help and special pay,<\/p>\n
Easy jobs in garrison,<\/p>\n
Can\u2019t deploy, at home they stay.<\/p>\n
But when it all hits the fan,<\/p>\n
They call us heroes and such,<\/p>\n
Give each a medal,<\/p>\n
Pretend to thank us very much.<\/p>\n
But they\u2019re terrible careful<\/p>\n
Who\u2019s fightin\u2019 and getting dead,<\/p>\n
Isn\u2019t their kids, their friends,<\/p>\n
They\u2019re still home in their own bed.<\/p>\n
Billions for folks who don\u2019t do nuthin\u2019,<\/p>\n
Folks who never risk their blood,<\/p>\n
Never lost a friend in the night,<\/p>\n
What about grunt corporals caked in mud?<\/p>\n
Caked in mud and dog tired,<\/p>\n
Or still at sea – for another month or three<\/p>\n
Deployments that never seem to end,<\/p>\n
While their kids are working on some worthless degree.<\/p>\n
Fights that have no real name,<\/p>\n
While politicians for pet projects beg,<\/p>\n
No one in Washington gives a damn \u2018bout us,<\/p>\n
But a good friend just lost his leg.<\/p>\n
They\u2019ll call him a hero,<\/p>\n
Take a picture, shake his hand,<\/p>\n
Then forget about him and move on,<\/p>\n
After claiming they understand.<\/p>\n
But no one cares about the Sailors,<\/p>\n
Or the Soldiers and Marines and all,<\/p>\n
The guys who are actually doing the work.<\/p>\n
The guys who are manning the wall.<\/p>\n
\u2018Cause out there, there are bad folks,<\/p>\n
And someone needs to be on guard,<\/p>\n
But someone who mans the parapet<\/p>\n
Shouldn\u2019t be so easy to discard.<\/p>\n
He sees folks living in hotels for free,<\/p>\n
Rooms he couldn\u2019t afford on private\u2019s pay,<\/p>\n
Politicians defending folks who loot,<\/p>\n
While he lies in the mud all day.<\/p>\n
Missiles being shot at his ship,<\/p>\n
While admirals and generals sip white wine,<\/p>\n
The big brains don\u2019t know how to end these messes,<\/p>\n
But give us another month on the line.<\/p>\n
They like to call us all sorts of names,<\/p>\n
Call us racists, part of some fascist machine,<\/p>\n
But we\u2019re the ones fighting for freedom,<\/p>\n
And the only color in a foxhole is green.<\/p>\n
So you can talk all your big talk,<\/p>\n
Vote billions more for each bad idea,<\/p>\n
But someday this may all catch up,<\/p>\n
We won\u2019t be willing to go to Korea.<\/p>\n
We love our country and our families,<\/p>\n
From all across this great land,<\/p>\n
And we were willing to sacrifice,<\/p>\n
Even if it meant dying in the sand.<\/p>\n
We love all our brothers in arms,<\/p>\n
Never much cared about their religion or race,<\/p>\n
But somehow we\u2019re the bad guys<\/p>\n
Because we all the flag embrace.<\/p>\n
They keep saying we should be free to love,<\/p>\n
Whoever or whatever we please,<\/p>\n
But they don\u2019t like what the Grunts love,<\/p>\n
Treat them like they got some disease.<\/p>\n
Whatever it is the politicians love,<\/p>\n
And the jocks and stars and wags,<\/p>\n
It isn\u2019t the same country that we cherish,<\/p>\n
It isn\u2019t our history or our flag.<\/p>\n
It is true that we are gullible,<\/p>\n
And we let them do with us as they please,<\/p>\n
But that is going to end some day,<\/p>\n
You bet that we can see.<\/p>\n
We will do what we do,<\/p>\n
For family, for friends, for the nation,<\/p>\n
But ain\u2019t gonna do a damned thing for them,<\/p>\n
They have become a stain upon creation.<\/p>\n
You keep expecting us to fight and die,<\/p>\n
As you and yours do what you please,<\/p>\n
And you keep saying we’re in the wrong,
\nWell, you bet that we can see.<\/p>\n
