But before I went out he was hooting quite a bit &#8211; I looked it up &#8211; definitely a Great Horned Owl\u2019s call\u2026ArriasInline image<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-26848 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicsocotra.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/120423-arria_owl-e1701975814573.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"280\" \/>Early morning, a dense, warm fog,<br \/>\nThe sky still black as pitch,<br \/>\nOut with the dogs in silent dawn,<br \/>\nAir is still, not a branch does twitch.<\/p>\n<p>A distinctive noise, that particular hoot,<br \/>\nThe call is clear and pure,<br \/>\nNot just any, a Great Horned Owl,<br \/>\nTis such an owl to be sure,<br \/>\nThat strange noise, that eerie noise,<br \/>\nCuts through that blanket, thick and gray,<br \/>\nThe Great Horned Owl in his perch,<br \/>\nOn watch, ere the break of day.<\/p>\n<p>I wave the light at the wood,<br \/>\nThe fog is thick but I see the fellow,<br \/>\nHe sits alone, high up in the tree,<br \/>\nHis eyes seem to glow a brilliant yellow,<br \/>\nI slowly walk, can just barely see,<br \/>\nHe turns his head to follow,<br \/>\nGreat Horned Owl on the hunt,<br \/>\nPre-dawn at foggy Dog Hollow.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Arrias<br \/>\nwww.vicsocotra.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Author&#8217;s Note: He was just sitting up there in the tree this morning &#8211; 2nd morning appearance this week.
