To Our Founding Fathers<\/p>\n

What were they thinking,
\nWhy would they even dare,
\nFight the British empire?
\nThey didn\u2019t have a prayer.<\/p>\n

The British had thousands of troops,
\nThe Colonies really had none,
\nJust some militias and crazy farmers,
\nMost armed only with a squirrel gun.<\/p>\n

A General who was a farmer,
\nAnd a Rhode Island Quaker,
\nA bookseller for the gunner,
\nThey would be lucky to hold one acre.<\/p>\n

And of their Navy? They had none,
\nThe Royal Navy had several hundred,
\nAnd almost half were ships of the line,
\nPerhaps they should have stayed in bed.<\/p>\n

At Lexington and Concord,
\nThe crazy farmers made the Redcoats pay,
\nBunker Hill a Pyrrhic victory,
\nThe British left Boston on St Patrick\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n

Many vicious battles were fought,
\nIt was a hard fought war,
\nBut fight on indeed they did,
\nThey knew what they were fighting for.<\/p>\n

For 8 long years they fought,
\nA more perfect union to form,
\nTo throw off a distant king,
\nAnd the very essence of government transform.<\/p>\n

They fought and died for our freedom,
\nLift a glass and a prayer,
\nTo our Founding Fathers,
\nFew in history can compare!<\/p>\n
