Editor’s Note: Arrias maintains the front on the Chesapeake. We were brushed by the same swath of cold wet air last night. It brought the first barely-measurable snow of the season to the Commonwealth. We had other communications from a square state out west with wind blowing a dozen degrees below zero (F) behind a mass of snow that reminded us of what real winters can be like…<\/p>\n

Ice Dragons<\/p>\n

Alone on the high steppe the dacha sits,
\nIce dragons from their mountain caves descend,
\nFrom their icy breath the Captain will defend,
\nWith discipline, good humor, and his wits.
\nThe Mistress of the house has been trapped,
\nBut rescued by neighbors both fair and true,
\nIn a local Keep for a day or two,
\nUntil a safe return is well and clearly mapped.
\nThese fearsome dragons of wind, snow and ice,
\nCan freeze a traveler, bury a house,
\nNone are safe, neither a Lord nor a mouse,
\nImprudent travelers pay a high price.
\nFor now the winter storm does outside rage,
\nDrafting plans inside sits the High Plains Sage.<\/p>\n

Another Storm<\/p>\n

Winter is here, raw and dark, wet and gray,
\nInside the Keep a cheery fire and warm,
\nA wizard works, his contacts to inform,
\nToiling through the night and into day.
\nThe Castle stands outside Emerald City,
\nWithin sight of the mad machinations,
\nTruly insane, beyond all expectations,
\nSystemic Lunacy, by Committee.
\nTowering fortress of red brick stands guard,
\nWary of a different kind of storm,
\nAs these loons do our nation transform,
\nA Wizard notes how our nation\u2019s been scarred.
\nWizard, Diarist, the Bard of Big Pink,
\nWatches, teaches, thus more clearly we think.<\/p>\n
