{"id":24890,"date":"2022-11-21T18:18:43","date_gmt":"2022-11-21T18:18:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vicsocotra.com\/wordpress\/?p=24890"},"modified":"2022-11-21T18:18:44","modified_gmt":"2022-11-21T18:18:44","slug":"arrias-and-his-muse-spice-souq","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicsocotra.com\/wordpress\/arrias-and-his-muse-spice-souq\/","title":{"rendered":"Arrias and His Muse: Spice Souq"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicsocotra.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/arrias_muse1.png\" width=\"214\" height=\"288\" \/>Author&#8217;s Note: My Muse was active\u2026 A dream I did not want to wake up from\u2026 someplace hot on a cold winter morning&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>-Arrias<\/p>\n<p>Spice Souq<\/p>\n<p>I was buying shelled pistachios, Some cloves from Zanzibar,<br \/>\nAnd a pound of dried pear,<br \/>\nA jar of Tumeric, Nutmeg from Pemang,<br \/>\nWhen I saw her standing there.<\/p>\n<p>A long-sleeved, white cotton dress, A matching wide brim hat,<br \/>\nThrough the old spice souq she wandered,<br \/>\nSage and Mace and Coriander, Frankincense and Myrrh,<br \/>\nShe tested and she pondered.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-24891\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicsocotra.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/112122-ARRIAS-e1669054688500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"218\" \/>Petite, lithe, she moved easily, tasting this and that,<br \/>\nSmiling pleasantly at nearly every thing,<br \/>\nI watched her, she was a vision, I was enthralled,<br \/>\nI saw she wore no ring.<\/p>\n<p>A few words in Arabic, a few more in some other tongue,<br \/>\nHaggling over prices I presume,<br \/>\nA breeze came up, It passed through the souq,<br \/>\nI could smell her sweet perfume.<\/p>\n<p>Mesmerized, I watched her, as she wandered among the stalls,<br \/>\nSlowly filling her canvas tote,<br \/>\nI followed at a distance, I wished for a chance to speak with her,<br \/>\nThe words caught in my throat.<\/p>\n<p>The merchants wanted their first sale, Before the day grew old and hot,<br \/>\n\u2019Tis a humid breeze that comes off the creek,<br \/>\nAn ounce of saffron from Persia, This merchant will be pleased,<br \/>\nShe smiles, a blush reddens her cheek.<\/p>\n<p>A pound of Cinnamon from Vietnam, Finest cumin from ancient India,<br \/>\nSome Vanilla from far Madagascar,<br \/>\nShe pays the merchants, she loads her bag, Her driver patiently waits,<br \/>\nAs she climbs into the car.<\/p>\n<p>A golden blond, an angelic smile, Treasures of the Orient,<br \/>\nGathered from all across Asia,<br \/>\nFor sale in the old spice souq.
