During our stay, a dispatch appeared in my inbox from a recently retired shipmate sent from his new digs in southern France (another special place to watch Armageddon\u2019s gaslight arcs). It read \u201cSo, by what right do French women all look so damn lovely? Young \u2018in\u2019s or women of a certain age, they all look so great.\u201d<\/p>\n
With a glass of red wine by my side, I was glad to help him out. Here\u2019s my response.<\/p>\n

Glad you asked, shipmate.<\/p>\n
I do have opinions, theories and wild-assed ideas accumulated since my time there during the 1960s.<\/p>\n
First, they aren\u2019t as sexy as Italian or French Vietnamese women.<\/p>\n
Please note that American babes are also A-listers.<\/p>\n
However, as you are discovering, les Fran\u00e7aises have many home field advantages — terroir, Chanel, cuisine, wine, art, cafes, movies, la vie douce, and their country\u2019s enduring and alluring literature of and on love.<\/p>\n
Parisiennes are slim and still teach their NYC soeurs about dress, style and comportment. Ever see a brassy one in Paris?<\/p>\n
They use dress, style, color to mask imperfections. The French femmes\u2019 supporting arts of love and seduction are world class.<\/p>\n
Hell, they even still make smoking cigarettes look divine.<\/p>\n
They do not seem to like exercising either in public or private. Please note the lack of ath-leisure wear or LuLuLemon crap on their bodies. No sweaty faces, stinky post workout fumes, or rumpled sweats for them<\/p>\n
Small things matter and in small quantities — scarves, jewelry, cosmetics, esthetics etc<\/p>\n
They have multi planar cohesion that is not mythic but no-sh*t real<\/p>\n
Now, once they open their mouths to talk what comes forth may move the needle downward, proving they are not goddesses, but still, as you note — my oh my . . .<\/p>\n
It helps that French men like women as they age which keeps French women more on top of their allure game.<\/p>\n
Sadly, that version of attraction is mostly MIA en Amerique.<\/p>\n
Next, let us not forget they speak French and other languages like they are French which totally disarms us. To me, spoken English blows when compared to French. Tant pis.<\/p>\n
Beauty and the art of daily living to them are cultural necessities.<\/p>\n
To us not so much.<\/p>\n
Their seemingly unapologetic attitude permeates their being and gives them unfair advantages when we linear thinking, English speaking types encounter then.<\/p>\n
In a word they are secure in their skins in ways that mesmerize us.<\/p>\n
So go out and buy your squeeze a scarf to surprise her!!<\/p>\n
