{"id":23073,"date":"2022-01-25T19:34:07","date_gmt":"2022-01-25T19:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vicsocotra.com\/wordpress\/?p=23073"},"modified":"2022-01-25T19:35:06","modified_gmt":"2022-01-25T19:35:06","slug":"the-muse-of-arrias-war-up-on-the-steppe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vicsocotra.com\/wordpress\/the-muse-of-arrias-war-up-on-the-steppe\/","title":{"rendered":"The Muse of Arrias: War Up On The Steppe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vicsocotra.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Arrias.jpg\" width=\"214\" height=\"288\" \/>Another winter day, gray and cold,<br \/>\nMuch like any other,<br \/>\nYet things are stirring round the globe,<br \/>\nCould a nation &#8211; or two &#8211; soon be smothered?<\/p>\n<p>Troop ships move, trains roll out,<br \/>\nHeated words exchanged,<br \/>\nWould be allies acquiesce,<br \/>\nMight one leader be deranged?<\/p>\n<p>Could incompetence and senility<br \/>\nCombine as we have seen before?<br \/>\nAnd, blended with appeasement,<br \/>\nLead us into war?<\/p>\n<p>One side strong and willful,<br \/>\nYet with convoluted fears of attack,<br \/>\nNeed ever more buffer zones,<br \/>\nAnd want the past brought back.<\/p>\n<p>On the other a desire for freedom,<br \/>\nAnd some peace behind a fence,<br \/>\nA break from \u201cMother\u201d and the past,<br \/>\nAnd some real independence.<\/p>\n<p>And in Asia a similar story,<br \/>\nA nation seeks another to devour,<br \/>\nMegalomania runs wild,<br \/>\nUnbridled lust for power.<\/p>\n<p>Clumsy leaders walk a razor\u2019s edge,<br \/>\nWhat is this cup that we might drink?<br \/>\nAre we doomed to toast to war?<br \/>\nMust we ever teeter on the brink?<\/p>\n<p>The world grows ever more dangerous,<br \/>\nBut man remains the same,<br \/>\nCapable of all manner of sins,<br \/>\nAnd often in His name.<\/p>\n<p>Once begun no man knows<br \/>\nWhere or how the war will end,<br \/>\nWar once begun is tragedy,<br \/>\nInto hell we will descend.<\/p>\n<p>We pray dear Lord that they do not,<br \/>\nTake that fatal final step,<br \/>\nAnd lead us all into war,<br \/>\nOut there, up on the steppe.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2022 Arrias<br \/>\nwww.vicsocotra.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another winter day, gray and cold, Much like any other, Yet things are stirring round the globe, Could a nation &#8211; or two &#8211; soon be smothered?
