Expect a complete volume of his verse.<br \/>\n&#8211; Vic<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Artist Speaks<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have never seen the leaves so bright,<br \/>\nI\u2019ve never seen such a glorious fall,<br \/>\nReds and greens and gold,<br \/>\nMore brilliant than e\u2019er I recall.<\/p>\n<p>And as they fall, the trees thin out,<br \/>\nGolden sunlight streams on through,<br \/>\nAnd up above in all its glory<br \/>\nA clear sky, cerulean blue.<\/p>\n<p>Golden leaves in all nature\u2019s glory,<br \/>\nIn a light breeze shimmer and quake,<br \/>\nA kaleidoscope of color and light,<br \/>\nSeemingly created all for my sake.<\/p>\n<p>How do I thank thee Lord for all this beauty,<br \/>\nThis magnificent, breathtaking display?<br \/>\nThe Greatest of Artists has spoken,<br \/>\nYour beauty sweeps me away.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Meadowlarks Sing<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Quaking aspens give way to snow,<br \/>\nWinter on the high plain,<br \/>\nCold winds blow and blow,<br \/>\nGrays and browns remain.<\/p>\n<p>Soon there comes cold, cold days,<br \/>\nAnd long, dark cold nights,<br \/>\nCrisp blue skies, high thin clouds,<br \/>\nHow that north wind bites.<\/p>\n<p>Mountains covered in thick white,<br \/>\nWinter now in command,<br \/>\nA deep blanket of snow<br \/>\nNow covers all the land.<\/p>\n<p>But under the snow soil renews,<br \/>\nAnd in our retreat we wait for spring,<br \/>\nFrom Varykino our sanctuary<br \/>\nWe shall hear the Meadowlarks sing.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Shenandoah Autumn<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Blue mountains are now covered<br \/>\nIn the colors of the rainbow,<br \/>\nReds, oranges, gold and green,<br \/>\nThe Valley\u2019s breathtaking show.<\/p>\n<p>Through the farms the river wanders,<br \/>\nPast barn and verdant field,<br \/>\nUnder the watch of ancient Mountains,<br \/>\nCrops all in, gracious nature\u2019s yield.<\/p>\n<p>Idyllic country lanes,<br \/>\nLined by trees of gold and red,<br \/>\nFields now still for winter,<br \/>\nAlmost as if they\u2019re dead.<\/p>\n<p>But buzzards high o\u2019erhead,<br \/>\nTurn circles against an azure dome,<br \/>\nSearching for prey in those same fields,<br \/>\nMidst clumps of recently turned loam.<\/p>\n<p>And in the cool, crisp mornings,<br \/>\nOn roads that carried Washington\u2019s coach,<br \/>\nThe seasons\u2019 cycle continues<br \/>\nHeavy frosts warn of winter\u2019s approach.<\/p>\n<p>More people now, but still the farms,<br \/>\nPeople and the land connected, whole,<br \/>\nSecluded, serene, peaceful,<br \/>\nAnd a Refuge for our soul.<\/p>\n<p>Washington and Jefferson knew the Shenandoah,<br \/>\nSummer, winter, spring and fall,<br \/>\nKnew the beauty of its seasons;<br \/>\nWe can still hear &#8211; and see &#8211; its siren\u2019s call.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2021 Arrias<br \/>\nwww.vicsocotra.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Editor\u2019s Note: It is Fall in Virginia\u2019s Piedmont, and Arrias has released his poetic muse to capture the magic of the season.
