Editor’s Note: The following essay and poetic musings are contributed by Socotra House stalwart Marlow, prince of the Coastal Empire. It was an item in a contentious morning meeting by the Editorial weenies at Socotra House. Some said that total compliance with new Footnotes would limit the semblance of objectivity we harness to make the current social lunacy seem reasonable. “Why would we change something that seemed to be working pretty well to try something that has never worked out anywhere it was tried? A series of orderly shrugs seemed to express solidarity with change, though no one really recalled asking for anything except to be left alone. Marlow’s piece was a case in point. As a point of order, we support all the crazy stuff you agree with and are resolute in opposing anything you don’t, unless someone more powerful tells us something different.<\/p>\n

Author’s Note: The presser was surreal. They are openly and deliberately trying to change our experience of these “shows.” They want to free us from our restrictive mindsets. Our preconditioned perception of reality must change.<\/p>\n

I feel that we Americans are now living inside Magritte and Dali paintings.<\/p>\n

Earlier in March, I thought 46 was sedated like a previous piece below described. Now I see he’s something entirely different.<\/p>\n

He’s an Automated Man.<\/p>\n

\nSo when you see me acting strangely, don’t be surprised
\nI’m just an Automated Man who needed someone and somewhere to hide
\nPlease keep me alive, just keep me barely alive
\nSomewhere to hide to keep me alive<\/p>\n

I’m not a robot without emotions, I’m not what you see
\nI’ve come to help you with your problems, so you can live for free
\nI’m not a Hero, I’m not a Savior, forget what you know
\nI’m just an Automated Man whose circumstances went beyond his control
\nBeyond control, you all need control
\nWe need control, you all need to be controlled<\/p>\n

\nWho hides behind a plastic mask (Secret, secret, I’ve got a secret)
\nSo no one else can see (Secret, secret, I’ve got a secret)
\nMy true Roomba identity
\nAmerica\u2019s problem’re plain to see
\nNot enough tracking technology
\nIt will save your lives
\nConstitutions and rules dehumanize<\/p>\n

Last night while watching 46’s first nationwide televised speech, I was slack jawed, I muted him while turning on closed captioning. To complete my thoughts and comfort my soul, I blasted a Ramones punk rock anthem while sipping my nightly brown liquid infusion.<\/p>\n

Maybe we should be sedated as well? Or are we already?<\/p>\n
