<\/p>\nAuthor’s note: Breaking news on the back pages of today’s morning newspapers says the US House of Representatives Appropriations Committee voted in a bipartisan fashion yesterday to rescind the 2001 authorization for the use of military force that underlays much of the past 16 years of American warring. The ostensible reason for this was reported to be a reassessment of the scale and scope of America\u2019s military commitments for the first time in more than a decade.<\/p>\n
Regardless of the reason, are these wars over?<\/p>\n

Hey, heard the war might be over
\nWe’re now all a lot older
\nAs our grand kids become soldiers<\/p>\n
Eating breakfast when the towers fell, while the news was read
\nSince then countless nightly news stories detailed lots of dead
\nUnborn now living, soon be dead
\nBullets struck jihadis’ heads<\/p>\n
Home front watched podcasted wars
\nEach proud firefight brags
\nWe war on terrorists lives
\nNow we bomb ISIS flags<\/p>\n
But it’s not over for Allah’s soldiers
\nIt’s not over for Allah’s soldiers
\nUh<\/p>\n
Fewer graves for American soldiers
\nWe hold them close on hollow shoulders
\nOur American soldiers<\/p>\n
Maimed, mangled on distant battlefields
\nMissing limbs
\nTheir nightmares real
\nMinds, arms and legs
\nHave been blown away
\nUseless stumps
\nTheir battlefield victories thrown away<\/p>\n
Mothers sing songs of woe
\nFathers turn
\nDon\u2019t want to know
\nFamilies torn apart
\nBy their soldiers with a purple heart.<\/p>\n
But perpetual war ain’t over
\nThese wars ain’t over
\nThey’re not over
\nWars ain’t over<\/p>\n
It ain’t over, baby!
\nAin’t over, baby!
