Strong Letter To Follow<\/p>\n

I found a single day\u2019s correspondence I had had with various factotums years ago. I smiled when the details surrounding them became clear.<\/p>\n

woke around 10 and went downstairs to fetch the mail
\nin my old blue bathrobe.
\nI was hung over
\nhair looked like confused harbor seas
\nmy scarred bare feet
\nstiffly teetered down the narrow wooden staircase
\nto the front door mail box
\nI scratched my three-day beard<\/p>\n

As I bent over
\nthe roofers across the street dropped
\na stack of metal tiles
\ncrashing on sidewalk
\n“BLAM”<\/p>\n

Shit fire! it was like being hit in the back
\nwith buck shot<\/p>\n

“dammit,” I shouted
\ngathering up a VISA card bill, catalogs,
\nproperty tax and gas payment notices,
\nletters from the probate lawyer and
\nthe divorce attorney
\nplus an unsigned note that
\nrequested I not furnish evidence next month<\/p>\n

I limped back up the narrow stairs
\nThinking maybe I’ll write them saying
\nto prepare
\nfor judgement day
\nis about to close in on them<\/p>\n

there’s only one way to handle these jerks.<\/p>\n

the day’s writing would have to wait<\/p>\n
